Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete returning to theaters before Rebirth launch

Just in time for the launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Final Fantasy VII Advent Children is headed back to big screens after nearly two decades since the film’s original release. What’s more, this is the “Complete” 4K remaster of Advent Children that includes 26 additional minutes of footage not seen in the original.

While Square Enix hasn’t officially confirmed the theatrical re-release at the time of writing, internet sleuths have discovered placeholder pages for the beloved CG action movie on several popular online ticket-selling sites, including Regal Cinemas, Fandango, AMC, and Atom Tickets. The new premiere dates indicated are February 21 and February 22, 2024, with the first date playing the dubbed English version and the latter the subbed Japanese variation.

According to the page description listed on AtomTickets.com, this special event will also be featuring a short film before the start of the movie that showcases interviews with both Rebirth and Advent Children creators, along with gameplay from the anticipated sequel. So be sure to get to the theater early so you don’t miss it!

This special theatrical event is timely considering Final Fantasy VII Rebirth releases a week later on February 29. In a way, this release schedule makes sense since Tetsuya Nomura, the director of both Rebirth and Advent Children, mentioned in an interview with The Guardian that the Remake trilogy would eventually "link up [to Advent Children].” While he was mum on more details, perhaps a quick movie refresher is just what fans need to begin connecting the narrative dots.

In Advent Children, Tifa tries her hardest to help Cloud cope with all he's lost.

Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete takes place about two years after the events of the original game. The Final Fantasy VII gang, especially Cloud, is still adjusting to life after all they’ve been through. But a sudden illness plaguing the children of Midgar and the arrival of some new, dangerous characters in the city begin resurrecting old memories and perhaps even old foes.
