Final Fantasy VII Rebirth game discs in Japan are labeled wrong
By: Jeff de Leon on February 28, 2024
There’s been a printing error on physical game discs of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in Japan and other Asian countries. Explained as a “defect in the manufacturing process at Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc.” via the Japanese Square Enix site, the “Play Disc” and “Data Disc” labels have been mistakenly swapped.
This means that players in impacted markets will need to insert the “Play Disc” to install the game and then use the “Data Disc” to play it once the installation is complete.
So far, this labeling snafu has been discovered on Japanese, Korean, and Chinese versions of physical Final Fantasy VII Rebirth game discs.

To put this in perspective, the game’s predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Remake – a critically acclaimed game in its own right–ended up with a Metacritic score of 87. Two of last year’s biggest titles, Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, both ended up with a score of 96.
This is an exceptional feat for a game like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth that’s carrying such massive weight in terms of pressure and expectations. Not only is it the most anticipated game of the year–literally–but the shadow of the original Final Fantasy...

Vincent and Cid won’t see combat in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
By: Jeff de Leon on February 15, 2024
In a recent article published by IGN detailing conversations with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi, both Vincent Valentine and Cid won’t be making their combat debuts in the upcoming sequel.
This goes deeper than simply being unplayable in combat like the AI-controlled Red XIII assisting in combat sequences in Final Fantasy VII Remake. According to Hamaguchi, the pair won’t be in combat with players at all.
He tells IGN that “both Cid and Vincent are accompanying the party on their journey and they do help out, but they aren't actually featuring in battle as guest characters. So they're not really going to be involved in your fight.”
He also elaborates that the decision to...

Performance Mode was announced during last week’s Rebirth State of Play video presentation and is designed to lock Rebirth performance at a steady 60fps. While it was implied that Performance Mode wouldn’t look as good as its visually focused counterpart, Graphics Mode, which goes the other route and prioritizes 4K visuals to go along with 30fps, demo players on the internet ...
