Japan’s Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards 2023 kicked off the week on March 17 and sent Final Fantasy XVI home with the most awards of the night. While the top prize of Game of the Year went to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, FFXVI still earned some competitive wins in Best Graphics, Best Music, Best Voice Actor, for Yuya Uchida’s performance as Clive, Best Character, also for Clive, and Best RPG.
Final Fantasy XVI earned seven total nominations, including a Best Game Developer nod for the game’s producer, Naoki Yoshida. Yoshida’s other major project, the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, also took home the award for Best Online Game.
Organized by gaming magazine Famitsu and Game Dengeki, the Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards are voted on by readers. While Final Fantasy XVI had been somewhat overshadowed during Western award shows, the sixteenth mainline Final Fantasy title has resonated with Japanese players who showed their love and appreciation with votes.
Final Fantasy XVI was released back in June 2023. Its first DLC, "Echoes of the Fallen," is available now with its second and final DLC, "The Rising Tide," coming later this spring.
